The results are in. The growth of the country’s Philippine Personal Computer (PC) market is the fastest in the ASEAN region. Acer leads the Philippine PC market in all circumstances for 10 years straight steering the country’s total market to 17% growth in the PC segment.

The recent data of International Data Corporation (IDC)—a global market intelligence firm—on Philippines PC Market Overview revealed that of the 2.45 million total personal computer shipments in the Philippines in 2018, 20% or approximately 490,000 units are accounted for Acer, topping its hardware and electronic counterparts Lenovo, HP, Asus, among others.

Acer also ranked top spot in the country as the leading brand in terms of Notebook PC unit shipments since 2006 with 26% market share as of 2018.

With the electronics giant leveraging its strong brand positioning at the forefront, the Philippines attracts expansive headroom for growth with a low PC penetration rate of 7% compared to developed economies.

While NCR drives the volume at 60% of total Acer sales, the report showed Visayas, Mindanao, and South Luzon as the fastest growing regions as the country pushes for an inclusive national economic growth.

The Philippine Consumer market is dominated by Notebooks accounting for 73% of Consumer PC shipments in 2018 while the Commercial market remains a Desktop domain taking 70% of the total Commercial PC shipments share.

The IDC report also identified growth opportunities in specific market segments such as Ultraslim Notebooks and Gaming devices, which Acer capitalizes with its Swift 5 and Swift 7 series – their lightest and thinnest laptops to date – and Predator, their PC Gaming line.

Innovating Education

The IDC report also mentioned government projects and ongoing digitization will continue to boost PC demand in SMB and education space, while private sector will continue to invest in PCs as the economy grows.

Acer continues to strengthen its efforts in these spaces by partnering with institutions, government units, and the education sector. Its solid commercial portfolio is the key driver for its Commercial business growth with constant development of customizable options maximizing the latest technologies to meet different business requirements.

The demand of the education sector in Acer’s ongoing efforts has also bolstered the company’s position by continuously transforming the current Philippine education landscape to digital through its Acer Academy program.

One of the efforts is its partnership with schools across the country wherein Acer supplies Chromebooks to provide students access to world-class education at an affordable price. This forms part of its commitment to help improve education through technology.

Future directions

Acer holds a strong vision for the future and sets the tone that the “best is yet to come.” Among its plans for the next months are to grow its Consumer, Commercial & Enterprise, and Gaming sectors.

For the Consumer segment, Acer aims to increase Philippine PC penetration by reviving use-cases for computers, while boosting PC refresh through premium devices.

For Commercial & Enterprise, the brand intends to promote modernization in Government, Education, and SMB and to grow steadily on Enterprise segment with a strong commercial portfolio.

For its Gaming segment, Acer will invigorate Gaming and Creator’s demand for powerful PCs catering to mainstream, casual, and hardcore users.

A global company that has continuously strengthened its presence in the country, Acer’s product range includes laptop and desktop PCs, monitors, projectors, and cloud solutions for home users, business, government, and education.
