Heroes of The Storm, Blizzard’s MOBA game, has slowly gained attention as a viable esport. It’s the youngest in global MOBA esports, but that doesn’t teams fight for chump change. Blizzard, in conjunction with PlayPark, has a healthy HoTS community in the country and with it, produced a team worthy of global competition: Imperium Pro Team.
Heroes of the Storm fans from all over the Philippines have one more reason to rejoice. Last September 10, 2016 at Coreon Gate Internet Café in Makati City, Imperium Pro Team was crowned victor in the Fall Championship Philippines National Finals. They walked away with P60,000 in cash prize, Razer merchandise and a chance to make it big in the next stage of the competition. Team Philippines will be heading to Bangkok, Thailand for the Southeast Asia Regional this September 24, 2016. They’re up against the top teams from the whole region – all eager to win the chance to fly to the Heroes Global Circuit Fall Championship in BlizzCon and to fight for the USD1,000,000 prize pool. Good luck, Team Philippines!
To get to the top spot, the Imperium Pro Team defeated other teams from the Online, Northern and Southern Philippines Qualifiers. When the dust settled below is the final ranking.
1st place – Imperium Pro Team
2nd place – Skyline Go
3rd place – Team Hangout
4th place – G7 HotS
Imperium Pro Team, formerly Renovatio, the Spring and Summer championship SEA winners, swept the National Finals. Their roster changes before the tournament did not hamper their stellar performance. They did not drop a single game until the very end where they faced Online Qualifier runner-up, Skyline Go, in a best of five set. It seems the addition of famed Singaporean players, Zeys and Mirr, to the line-up leveled up their skill set. Their competitor, however, almost missed their chance at the grand finals when they went up against sister team – Team Hangout – in the losers round. Until the very last minute, the match between these two could have gone either way.
Spectators also had blast watching the tournament happen live at the venue and enjoying activities set up for them. With lots of Heroes of the Storm loot as prizes, attendees struck their best pose with character weapons, tested their knowledge in a pop quiz and of course showed off their skills in timed attacks.
Time will tell if Team Philippines is up to the task. They have tough contenders before them – Malaysia’s back-to- back national champions Black Sheep 5 and high caliber teams coming from the Singapore and Thailand National Finals this weekend. Will they make history and win three straight Southeast Asian titles? The world will definitely be watching. Though for sure, their kababayans will be cheering them on.
Good luck, Imperium Pro Team!
