Back in November 2018, realme made a splash in the local smartphone scene with the C1, their entry-level offering. With above average specs, a very attractive price point, and a youth-centric digital campaign to support it, the C1 enjoyed great success. A community was built not just around the phone but the brand, with fans not just in Metro Manila, but in other provinces across the Philippines.

In March, realme is set to announce a new smartphone. Promising higher-tier specs than the C1, this could be the realme 2. Note than in other countries, realme launched the C1 and the 2 at the same time. It could be that stock of the higher-tier smartphone ran low, so the company had to wait for a fresh supply to be made in order to fully prepare for the Philippines and the demand for “bang-for-the-buck” handsets.

However, according to this 2018 article from YugaTech, the realme 2 WILL NOT be launching here in the country.

Here’s the realme 2’s specs:

6.2-inch 19:9 aspect ratio display @ 1520 x 720 px
Corning Gorilla Glass 3
1.8GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450
Adreno 506 GPU
3GB or 4GB RAM
32GB or 64GB internal storage expandable via microSD up to 256GB
13MP+2MP f/2.2 dual rear cameras with LED Flash
8MP f/2.2 AI 2.0 front camera
ColorOS 5.1 (Android 8.1 Oreo)
4,230mAh battery

“We are extremely happy to announce that we are once again ready to bring real value to the smartphone experience of Filipinos. The realme C1 was welcomed warmly by the local market, and we are truly grateful for the support we have been receiving these past few months. We take the positive market response as a vote of confidence and so we are optimistic that the new phone that we will be launching this March will receive the same warm welcome, if not warmer. With this new product, our Filipino fans will discover even more what real value for smartphones means,” shares realme Philippines Chief Operating Officer Jacky Chen.

“More than just launching smartphones, we provide real value to our customers by being a smartphone brand that focuses on the needs of our customers. Definitely there are more surprises ahead with our upcoming new smartphone” shares realme Philippines Marketing Lead, Eason de Guzman.

If it’s not the realme 2 (since that was a 2018 model), could realme Philippines be launching the realme 3, just like they did in India a few days back?

For comparison, here are the specs of the realme 3:

IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
720 x 1520 pixels, 19:9 ratio (~270 ppi density)
Android 9.0 (Pie); ColorOS 6
Mediatek MT6771 Helio P60 (12 nm)
Octa-core (4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A53)
Mali-G72 MP3
64 GB storage
4 GB RAM
13 MP, f/1.8, 1/3″, 1.12µm, PDAF 2 MP, depth sensor rear camera
13 MP, f/2.0, 1/3″, 1.12µm front camera
