It’s shiny, it’s here, and it’s official; ASUS just launched their latest 2-in-1 to bear the ‘Transformer’ name. The ASUS Transformer Chi is both a sleek laptop and a tablet in one all-aluminum device powered by the latest Intel Core M processors.

Fresh from their ZenFone 2 announcement, ASUS turned its attention to its computing devices with the release of the Transformer Book Chi, a sexy tablet + laptop combo successor to the Transformer Book. The Windows-powered device boasts a 12.5-inch IPS display that outputs a 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution with up to 8GB RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage. When docked, the screen and keyboard measure 1.65cm thick, easily one of the thinnest laptops around thanks to its fanless design.

At its core, the Transformer Book Chi is powered by an Intel Core M processor which delivers smooth performance for your daily needs while also being power and heat efficient – another reason why ASUS was able to go the fanless route. Despite the Core M’s cooling management system, we still do not recommend using the Chi on your lap.

Aside from the SSD drive delivering fast read and write speeds compared to traditional hard disks, the Chi also comes with USB 3.0 connectivity via a Type B USB port. All these combine to give the Transformer Book Chi impressive battery life: up to 32 hours in tablet mode and around 2 hours when docked, according to ASUS.

One factor we liked about the Transformer Chi is how the tablet docks into the keyboard. ASUS did away with the push-button lock type system and instead employed neodymium, the most powerful magnetic material in the world, as part of their docking system. Once attached to the keyboard, the tablet/screen takes a bit of effort to pry off and you can actually raise the whole thing off your table without fear of the keyboard detaching.
