Yes, you may cringe at the name, but Josie Rizal, Tekken 7’s newest fighter, looks like she can kick major ass – even in her curiously shiny costume.

Bandai Namco Games’ Katsuhiro Harada has recently revealed Josie in several tweets, admitting that her name was a play on the national hero’s.

Josie was designed by Mari Shimazaki, lead character designer of Bayonetta. Her outfit seems to be inspired from the flag of the Philippines, with the colors and the sun and stars motif. The Filipina hitter is said to be an expert in kickboxing and eskrima, but has a pretty sad back story which explains why she cries in disbelief every time she wins.

Although some gamers had negative responses regarding her name, we think that Jose Rizal wouldn’t mind having a strong girl who rises from tragedy as his namesake in the Tekken universe.

Tekken 7 is coming soon on PS4 and Xbox One.
